April 2010 - Chapter Treasurer Charlotte McKee hosted the chapter meeting in her home. The chapter DAR Good Citizen shared her essay and her post-graduation plans with the group. We were delighted to hear from our guest speaker, MSSDAR Honorary State Regent Sharon C. Nettles, as she shared the importance of genealogical research and preservation. The grounds of Rosalie Mansion, owned by the Mississippi State Society Daughters of the American Revolution, is the site of a burial ground of early settlers of Natchez. The site was discovered during a bluff stabilization project in 1999. On March 26, 2010, the MSSDAR held a historical marker dedication commemorating the site of the cemetery. Supporting Rosalie Mansion, owned by the MSSDAR, has always been an important objective of Chief Red Jacket. Receiving tourists during Pilgrimage time is a delightful activity for our Daughters. For the March meeting, members and guests gathered in the home of member Grace Jones. DAR Speakers Staff member, Cynthia McNamara presented an informative program on the events that led up to the Battle of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775. Chief Red Jacket was well represented at the 2010 MSSDAR State Conference. A highlight of the conference was the National Defense Luncheon. MSSDAR Recording Secretary and chapter member Charla Jordan hosted the February chapter meeting. Those in attendance enjoyed hearing MSSDAR Treasurer Anna Royston speak on Native American Art and Culture. At the January chapter meeting, Organizing Regent Marjorie Murray was recognized for her long and faithful service to the chapter, state and national society. Pictured are Marjorie Murray and Chapter Regent Jo Hubbard.





The chapter enjoyed a Christmas party again this year. Musical entertainment, refreshments and the popular "Heritage Show and Tell" were enjoyed by those in attendance. Pictured are chapter members Penny Reinhardt, Charla Jordan and Esther Fabbricante.





At the November chapter meeting, Chief Red Jacket members and guests enjoyed fellowship and an informative program. Virginia Brickell, a member of the DAR Speakers Staff, spoke on the proper use of DAR insignia, pins, and sashes. The official insignia, which was patented in 1891, is a gold wheel that is banded with the deep blue signature color of the DAR, stars on each of the 13 wheel spokes representing the original 13 colonies, and a platinum or white gold distaff. Chief Red Jacket members always enjoy MSSDAR Rosalie Day activities. We were excited to have the most members in attendance this year and win the Silver Bowl back! Brigadier General (Retired) Maxey Phillips was the guest speaker for the October chapter meeting. He shared his experiences from his long and distinguished Air Force career. The new chapter year of work truly begins with District Meeting. Chief Red Jacket members and prospective members attended the Heartland District meeting held on July 24, 2009, at the B.B. Chief Red Jacket Chapter members enjoy participating in annual Continental Congress activities held at NSDAR headquarters in Washington, DC. For the 118th Continental Congress, the chapter was represented by Regent Jo Hubbard, Vice Regent Cindy Mangum, and MSSDAR Recording Secretary Charla Jordan.
