April 2010 - We had the opportunity to hear from our DAR Good Citizen at our chapter meeting. She shared her essay and her plans for after graduation. Chief Red Jacket sponsors the contest in the Rankin County schools. The chapter winner is honored as a guest at the National Defense Luncheon at the MSSDAR State Conference in February, as well as visiting the chapter to be recognized.

In February, Chief Red Jacket Chapter made a donation of books and DVDs to the Genealogy Room at the Brandon Library. One DVD was "All For Liberty", a recently released, award winning portrayal of the Revolutionary War experience of Captain Henry Felder of South Carolina. Chapter Regent Jo Hubbard is a descendant of Captain Felder. Pictured are Jo Hubbard and Anne Vanderleest of the Brandon Library Genealogy Room.

At the January chapter meeting, members enjoyed hearing the annual presentation by members of the Gerard C. Brandon Society, N.S.C.A.R. The chapter has sponsored this society since its organization.

Chief Red Jacket Chapter and Gerard C. Brandon Society, N.S.C.A.R. co-sponsored their annual Christmas party for the VA Nursing Home at the G.V. Sonny Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson. The veterans enjoyed refreshments and musical entertainment. The C.A.R. members presented the veterans with gifts of socks and distributed patriotic t-shirts generously donated by the Crossgates Exchange Club.

Chief Red Jacket was honored to participate in the Blue Star Memorial Marker Dedication Program on Veterans Day 2009. The Brandon Garden Club sponsored the marker's placement at the Brandon Library. Chief Red Jacket joined with members and seniors of the Gerard C. Brandon Society, N.S.C.A.R. in promoting Constitution Week 2009. City of Brandon Mayor Tim Coulter signed a proclamation declaring September 17 - 23 Constitution Week. The children were impressed to learn that this year marked the two hundrend and twenty-second anniversary of the United States Constitution. The chapter also distributed Constitution Week posters to all of the Rankin County schools.
